Like our well-tempered friendship, our dedication and inspiration remain strong, combined with hard-won experience and knowledge-acquired over twenty studio albums, and perhaps most of all by playing thousands of live shows. Certainly at this point, after being together for almost thirty-eight years (and being around a decade or two before that), Alex, Geddy, and I have reached our “mature years.” However, we have arrived there hot and sweaty, sliding into third, as a working, touring band. an event far more intriguing to me than those missing eleven days in 1926! But there’s a lot of good stuff going on – especially for fans of humorous royal romances with a hearty dose of k!nky spice. About a third of the way in, I started to get a little uncomfortable with the power dynamics at play, and that ended up being the book’s downfall for me. The opposites attract dynamic worked, and it definitely felt like a spicy play on The Princess Diaries or My Fair Lady. Our hero is intense and loyal to a fault, so he does his best to resist this overtly sexual and persistent heroine. I really enjoyed the first 30ish%, with its crackling chemistry and TONS of sexual tension. This is something a little different from Quinn, though it still feels like one of her steamy rom coms. It started off strong, but my interest had fizzled by the end. Possibly the reason I so enjoyed this book is because I really liked Lyall and Biffy in all the other books and they both really needed to fall in love with someone! All you need is love! Biffy is the Alpha of the London pack, but he hasn’t been Alpha for very long, he hasn’t even been a werewolf very long. Professor Lyall is only called professor because he really likes to study sheep. Biffy is short for Rabiffano, as in Sandalio de Rabiffano, which is an AMAZING name that has been used twice in 8 books, which in turn is very sad. This is the totally adorable love story of Professor Lyall and Biffy, who feature in all five of the Parasol Protectorate novels as well as in Prudence and a little bit Imprudence of the Custard Protocol. Plot: Rekindling the old flame after 20 years Heat Factor: Steamy with a side of sentimentĬharacter Chemistry: Maybe an overemphasis on the Alpha/Beta, but I was rooting for them And the biggest, best game of all is the Battle Room, where they organize into "armies" and play 41-on-41 zero-G laser tag as the adults look on, searching for future commanders against the incoming menace. There they study physics, mathematics, history, psychology, politics, and play a lot of games. As the threat of a third invasion looms nigh, the world's most talented children are taken to an orbiting Battle School. In the not-too-distant future, mankind has barely survived two invasions by an insectoid alien race, formally known as Formics, but called Buggers by most of the viewpoint characters. Ender's Game is the book that put Orson Scott Card on the map, and it remains his most famous work ever, with its sequel Speaker for the Dead a close second. |
